Body contouring after massive weight loss — whether achieved through bariatric surgery or lifestyle intervention — addresses the excess skin that remains after significant weight reduction. These procedures are typically more extensive than standard cosmetic body contouring, involving larger tissue resections, longer incision lines, and broader areas of disruption. They are frequently performed in stages: a lower body lift or panniculectomy first, followed by upper body lift, arm lift, and thigh lift in subsequent sessions.
The rehabilitation needs after post-bariatric body contouring are correspondingly extensive. Patients often have nutritional considerations that affect healing, larger scar burdens to manage, and functional mobility goals that are central to their quality of life after weight loss. Our therapists bring both rehabilitation expertise and sensitivity to the unique physical and emotional journey of post-bariatric patients.
Staged procedure rehabilitation: We can support your rehabilitation at each stage of post-bariatric body contouring — beginning between stages as well as after each procedure, providing continuity of care throughout the full contouring journey.

Our Treatment Approach
Comprehensive Post-Bariatric Assessment
We review all procedures completed, healing status across all sites, nutritional status, and mobility capacity. We develop a phased rehabilitation plan addressing each surgical site systematically.
Multi-Region MLD
Extensive MLD addressing all operated body regions in a coordinated sequence. Sessions are 60–90 minutes given the scope of tissue involved. Frequency highest immediately post-surgery, adapting to healing and mobility capacity.
Extensive Scar Management
Comprehensive management of the large scar burden — circumferential, longitudinal, and multi-site — addressing each scar segment systematically with desensitization, silicone guidance, and progressive mobilization.
Functional Mobility Restoration
Progressive mobility, positioning, and functional movement guidance to support the return to the active, fulfilling life that body contouring after weight loss is intended to enable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you work with me across multiple stages of my body contouring?
Yes — and we recommend it. Establishing a rehabilitation relationship before your first procedure allows us to support you efficiently through each stage. Continuity of care across the full contouring journey produces better outcomes than beginning rehabilitation fresh after each individual surgery.
I have a wound that is slow to heal after my procedure. Can rehabilitation help?
We work in close coordination with your surgical team for any wound healing concerns. MLD can support the tissue environment around healing wounds. We do not provide direct wound care — we complement the care provided by your surgeon and wound care team.
