Body lift procedures — lower body lift (belt lipectomy), upper body lift, thigh lift, arm lift, and combined total body contouring — involve the removal and repositioning of large areas of skin and fat across multiple anatomical regions simultaneously. The lymphatic disruption is correspondingly extensive, multiple drainage territories are affected at once, and the body's capacity to clear post-operative fluid is severely reduced across a wide area.
Post-body-lift swelling routinely peaks weeks after surgery and, without proper rehabilitation, can persist for 3–6 months or longer. The large incision lines — circumferential in the case of a full lower body lift — also require careful scar management to prevent adhesion, widening, and the tissue changes that impair long-term aesthetic outcomes.
Multiple surgical sites: Body lift procedures often involve multiple incision locations, drain sites, and concurrent liposuction. We map all surgical sites at your first appointment and build a coordinated rehabilitation plan addressing the full scope of your procedure.
Post-Body-Lift Concerns We Treat
- Diffuse swelling across trunk, buttocks, thighs, arms, or combined regions
- Significant firmness and induration in elevated skin flaps
- Fluid migration to dependent areas — inner thighs, knees, ankles, forearms
- Seroma risk at multiple drain sites after drain removal
- Circumferential or multi-site scar management
- Progressive fibrosis or irregularity developing in treated tissue
- Mobility and positioning limitations during the acute recovery phase
Our Treatment Approach
Full Procedure Assessment
We map all surgical sites, drain locations, incision lines, and areas of current swelling. Careful staging of the drainage and rehabilitation sequence is essential for safety and effectiveness given the extent of body lift procedures.
Staged Multi-Site MLD
Sessions progress systematically — clearing proximal lymph node basins before addressing each large tissue flap. Positioning is adapted to your mobility and healing. Sessions typically 60–75 minutes given the extent of the drainage area.
Circumferential Scar Management
Body lift scars require management around the full circumference of the incision — desensitization, mobilization, and scar prevention strategies are implemented as healing progresses at each site.
Mobility & Compression Coordination
Garment guidance across all treated areas, daily self-drainage routine instruction, and positioning and activity modification to support lymphatic recovery between sessions.
Body lift recovery is long and complex. Certified rehabilitation makes it faster, safer, and more comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions will I need after a body lift?
Body lift procedures typically require more sessions than isolated procedures. Most patients benefit from 10–15 or more sessions, with frequency highest in the first month. We reassess at each stage of recovery.
I'm still quite immobile after my lower body lift. Can I still come in?
Yes. We accommodate patients at any mobility level and adapt treatment positioning to your limitations. Beginning rehabilitation while you have reduced activity is often when lymphatic drainage is most needed.
